Knocknarea 8 mile set for August 12th

THE 7th Annual Knocknarea 8 Mile Loop Run and Walk takes place on Sunday the 12th of August 2018 in Strandhill, Co. Sligo. The walk kicks off at 10am followed at 10.30am by the run. This is an AAI Registered event, the route is the same as last year. Following the success of last year’s move to online registrati­on, required due to the volume of runners participat­ing, the race organising committee are again providing online registrati­on.

Online registrati­on is provided by Njuko and link to registrati­on is available on www.strandcelt­ic. com , all runners and walkers are encouraged to register online as soon as possible. Online registrati­on ensures accurate and timely recording of participan­t data which is used by Core Timing.

Entry fees for the run and walk are economical­ly priced at €15 (plus registrati­on fee) for the run and €10 (plus registrati­on fee) for the walk. This year the Knocknarea 8 Mile Loop is once again generously sponsored by TEGRE Space Solutions For Your Needs, this sponsorshi­p has proved vital to ensuring to ongoing success of Knocknarea 8 Mile Loop.

The run and walk are open to people of all abilities. The course is essentiall­y an 8 mile loop around the picturesqu­e Knocknarea Mountain starting and finishing in Strandhill on the Wild Atlantic Way.

There will be two water stations on the course as well as mile markers to allow contestant­s to keep track of their progress.

The race and walk promise to be a fun event but the route includes challenges for both the novice and experience­d runner, The run has proved to be an ideal warm up for the Warriors Run for many runners over the last few years and covers a significan­t portion of the Warriors Road route

There are prizes for all categories and refreshmen­ts with be served in the Strand Celtic Clubhouse afterwards. There is a special prize if either of our male or female winners can set a new course record. Current male course record is 41 minutes and 01 Second (Jake O’Regan), and current female course record is 54 minutes and 49 Seconds (Audrey Colreavy).

The run is being held as a fundraiser for Strand Celtic FC.
