Club introduce to their regatta schedule for the first time 500 metre racing for the club’s leisure rowers which proved to be a resounding success with some fun and exciting races. Sligo Rowing Club have over the last 11 months through voluntary fund raising, private sponsorship and through funding received from Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership under the Sport Ireland Dormant Accounts Urban Outdoor Adventure Initiative have now procured two social leisure rowing boats to accommodate introduction to rowing for those adults who wish to try out the sport of rowing and to enjoy the nature and beauty of the Garavogue and Lough Gill as a leisure pursuit. The club now looks forward to racing at the Carrick On Shannon sprint regatta next weekend which is the last competitive event of the 2018 rowing season.
Training for the 2019 season will commence in September and plans are already being discussed for a Head of the River event in February with a sprint regatta in the summer of 2019.
