SHOW SUCCESS
A very hearty thank you to all the local visitors, volunteers and sponsors who together made the 2018 Sligo County Agricultural Show a huge success. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces celebrating rural living in Riverstown’s community park, as well as the fabulous array of farm animals, home grown vegetables, home baking and craft. Well done, everyone.
CEMETERY MASS
There will be a Cemetery Mass held in Ballyrush graveyard on the Bank Holiday Monday, August 6, at midday
HOSPICE DONATION
A fundraiser is under way in Ballintogher, Ballygawley, Castlebaldwin and Riverstown areas. Envelopes are being delivered to each household, enclosure at your discretion and optional. Your support would be greatly appreciated for this worthy cause.
GOLF SCRAMBLE
Arrow harps will be having their main fundraiser a golf scramble on the August bank holiday weekend Saturday to Monday (Saturday, August 4, and Bank Holiday Monday, August 6) in Castle Dargan. (€100 team of four players). The course is in excellent condition so please try and support. JAMES MORRISON FESTIVAL
The James Morrison Traditional Music Festival will run from Friday, August 3, to Monday, August 6. This Festival commemorates the musical genius of Sligo’s James Morrison and his contemporaries.
On Friday, the official opening by Vince Jordon (Uachtaran CCE), in Morrison Teach Ceoil at 7.30 p.m., will be followed by the Commemorative Concert in Community Hall at 9 p.m.
On Saturday, Musical Tales with Chris Thompson will be held in the Teach Ceoil from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. This is an interactive workshop with puppets, music and mayhem. At 1 p.m. The John Callaghan Memorial sean nós Dancing Competition takes place in the Community Hall. At 6 p.m. The James Morrison Memorial musical tribute in Drumfin will be followed by commemorative address by Gavin Collis at 8 p.m. in the Teach Ceoil. Enjoy a Singing Session led by Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin in the Corner House at 7.30 p.m. followed by a ceili on the Diamond, at 10 p.m. with Marshy Ridge céilí Band.
Sunday starts with Aifreann na Féile at 12.30 p.m. and an afternoon céilí on the Diamond at 3 p.m. with Collis Family featuring the Turfman from Shanboley, Benbulben set dancers and Bróga Bríomhar Dancers. Eimear Mulvey and Conal McCormack will host a Junior Session from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. in Corner House. A Symposium honouring Pat O’Kane will take place at 7 p.m. in the Teach Ceoil.

LITTLE BUDDIES
Little Buddies currently have vacancies on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in their Poppy Room which caters for wobblers aged one to two years. There are also places available for all day care for the summer months in the bluebell room which caters for three-year-olds. Enrolments are now being taken for the upcoming free 2018/2019 pre-school term. Children must be two years and eight months in September to be eligible. BICENTENARY CELELEBRATIONS
Taunagh Select Vestry, Riverstown, Sligo are hosting the following events to celebrate the Bicentenary of Taunagh Parish Church 1818 2018. On Friday, August 17, and Saturday, August 18, from 10 a.m., there will be festival of Flowers in Taunagh Church, and a memorabilia exhibition in the Cooper Memorial Hall.
There will be an official Celebration Launch in the Cooper Memorial Hall on Friday, August 17, at 8 p.m. by Cllr Martin Baker, Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council.
Celebrations will continue on Saturday, August 18, with a James Kilbane concert in Taunagh Church at 8 p.m. Tickets to this event are on sale now for €15. To complete festivities all are welcome to attend a Bicentenary Service of Thanksgiving on Sunday, August 19, at 4 p.m. in Taunagh Parish Church.
