A very hearty thank you to all the lo­cal vis­i­tors, vol­un­teers and spon­sors who to­gether made the 2018 Sligo County Agri­cul­tural Show a huge suc­cess. It was won­der­ful to see so many happy faces cel­e­brat­ing ru­ral liv­ing in River­stown’s com­mu­nity park, as well as the fab­u­lous ar­ray of farm an­i­mals, home grown veg­eta­bles, home bak­ing and craft. Well done, ev­ery­one.


There will be a Ceme­tery Mass held in Bal­lyrush grave­yard on the Bank Hol­i­day Mon­day, Au­gust 6, at mid­day


A fundraiser is un­der way in Ballintogher, Bal­ly­gaw­ley, Castle­bald­win and River­stown ar­eas. En­velopes are be­ing de­liv­ered to each house­hold, en­clo­sure at your dis­cre­tion and op­tional. Your sup­port would be greatly ap­pre­ci­ated for this wor­thy cause.


Ar­row harps will be hav­ing their main fundraiser a golf scram­ble on the Au­gust bank hol­i­day week­end Satur­day to Mon­day (Satur­day, Au­gust 4, and Bank Hol­i­day Mon­day, Au­gust 6) in Cas­tle Dar­gan. (€100 team of four play­ers). The course is in ex­cel­lent con­di­tion so please try and sup­port. The James Mor­ri­son Tra­di­tional Mu­sic Fes­ti­val will run from Friday, Au­gust 3, to Mon­day, Au­gust 6. This Fes­ti­val com­mem­o­rates the mu­si­cal ge­nius of Sligo’s James Mor­ri­son and his con­tem­po­raries.

On Friday, the of­fi­cial open­ing by Vince Jor­don (Uachtaran CCE), in Mor­ri­son Teach Ceoil at 7.30 p.m., will be fol­lowed by the Com­mem­o­ra­tive Con­cert in Com­mu­nity Hall at 9 p.m.

On Satur­day, Mu­si­cal Tales with Chris Thomp­son will be held in the Teach Ceoil from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. This is an in­ter­ac­tive work­shop with pup­pets, mu­sic and may­hem. At 1 p.m. The John Cal­laghan Me­mo­rial sean nós Danc­ing Com­pe­ti­tion takes place in the Com­mu­nity Hall. At 6 p.m. The James Mor­ri­son Me­mo­rial mu­si­cal trib­ute in Drumfin will be fol­lowed by com­mem­o­ra­tive address by Gavin Col­lis at 8 p.m. in the Teach Ceoil. En­joy a Singing Ses­sion led by Caitríona Ní Cheannab­háin in the Cor­ner House at 7.30 p.m. fol­lowed by a ceili on the Di­a­mond, at 10 p.m. with Marshy Ridge céilí Band.

Sun­day starts with Aif­re­ann na Féile at 12.30 p.m. and an af­ter­noon céilí on the Di­a­mond at 3 p.m. with Col­lis Fam­ily fea­tur­ing the Turf­man from Shan­bo­ley, Ben­bul­ben set dancers and Bróga Bríomhar Dancers. Eimear Mul­vey and Conal McCormack will host a Ju­nior Ses­sion from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. in Cor­ner House. A Sym­po­sium hon­our­ing Pat O’Kane will take place at 7 p.m. in the Teach Ceoil.

Lit­tle Bud­dies cur­rently have va­can­cies on Mon­day, Wednesday and Thurs­day in their Poppy Room which caters for wob­blers aged one to two years. There are also places avail­able for all day care for the sum­mer months in the blue­bell room which caters for three-year-olds. En­rol­ments are now be­ing taken for the up­com­ing free 2018/2019 pre-school term. Chil­dren must be two years and eight months in Septem­ber to be el­i­gi­ble. Tau­nagh Se­lect Vestry, River­stown, Sligo are host­ing the fol­low­ing events to cel­e­brate the Bi­cen­te­nary of Tau­nagh Par­ish Church 1818 2018. On Friday, Au­gust 17, and Satur­day, Au­gust 18, from 10 a.m., there will be fes­ti­val of Flow­ers in Tau­nagh Church, and a mem­o­ra­bilia ex­hi­bi­tion in the Cooper Me­mo­rial Hall.

There will be an of­fi­cial Cel­e­bra­tion Launch in the Cooper Me­mo­rial Hall on Friday, Au­gust 17, at 8 p.m. by Cllr Martin Baker, Cathaoir­leach of Sligo County Coun­cil.

Cel­e­bra­tions will con­tinue on Satur­day, Au­gust 18, with a James Kil­bane con­cert in Tau­nagh Church at 8 p.m. Tick­ets to this event are on sale now for €15. To com­plete fes­tiv­i­ties all are wel­come to at­tend a Bi­cen­te­nary Ser­vice of Thanks­giv­ing on Sun­day, Au­gust 19, at 4 p.m. in Tau­nagh Par­ish Church.
