Crowds go ‘quackers’ for ducks

-

THE village of Ballisodare went ‘quackers’ for rubber ducks last weekend for the annual 5k and duck race event.

During the fundraiser for Ballisodare United Football Club 1,036 people bought a rubber duck to take part in the race.

Organisers say this is a record for the Duck Race which always attracts a large crowd of loyal supporters.

The ducks were released into the Ballisodare River which runs through the village as hopeful punters looked on from the nearby bridge in the centre of the village.

There was plenty other activities besides for the family day out, including a 5k road race, face-painting and a bouncy castle for children.

With €1,000 in prize money for the race, the lucky winner this year was Kathleen Gilmartin who scooped €400 after her bet paid off !
