Man is charged with six Tubber burglary charges

A man has been sent forward for trial on charges of burglary at six houses in the Tubbercurr­y area.

Dean Barrett (25) of Mountain Road, Tubbercurr­y appeared at Sligo District Court where he was sent for trial to the next sittings of the Circuit Court in Sligo beginning on November 6 th next.

Barrett is charged with entering houses at Highfield, Connolly Park, Cnoc Na Sí and the Mass Hill area on dates from late 2017 to February this year and committing theft.

The court was told by Inspector Donal Sweeney that in January 2017 the accused received a three year jail in the Circuit COurt with two years and three months of that term suspended.

The matter was re-entered by the Probation Service in December 2018 and on June 25 th last, Judge Keenan Johnson remended the accused in custody to appear at a sitting of the Circuit Court in Roscommon on October 1st next.

Judge Kevin Kilrane returned the accused for trail to the Circuit Court.

Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor (defending), said there would be no applicatio­n for bail on the charges. The remaned in custody was made to the Midlands Prison.

The accused is also facing others charges which were adjourned to a sitting of Harristown Court on August 17 th next.

Barrett apeared before a special sitting of Sligo District Court last Monday having been remanded in custody from the previous Thursday.

The return for trial had been adjourned in order to ascertain the accused’s status and to clarify if he had been on remand in custody from the Circuit Court or not.
