RECENT DEATH

The death took place at her residence at five, Rathmadder, Gurteen, on Sunday, July 29, of Annie-May Tansey née O’Connor. News of her passing was received with deep sadness in the community – a quiet unassuming and well-liked member of the community she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Her remains reposed Perry’s Funeral Home, Ballymote on Tuesday evening and were removed to St Patrick’s Church, Gurteen. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday at midday by parish priest Fr Joe Caulfielda­ssisted by parish priest Fr Joe Gavigan Ballaghade­rreen, Fr Dan O’Mahoney C.C Cloonacool and parish priest Fr Gerard Davey Carracastl­e with burial afterwards in Gurteen Cemetery.

Predecease­d by her husband Noel, she is survived by her sons, Anthony and John, daughters, Anne and Rosaleen, sons – in-law, Lucas and John daughter – in-law, Rosaleen grandchild­ren, brothers John – Patrick and Séamus, sisters, Christina, Bridget and Teresa, nephews, nieces and a large circle of relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

BINGO

Bingo is held every Friday night in Gurteen Hall at 8.30 p.m. The jackpot is now €3,200 on 48 calls – lotto raffle of €1,000 was won recently but is back again at €300 – all proceeds are shared between Eastern Harps GAA Club and the hall committee for the upkeep of the hall.

COLEMAN CENTRE

The summer Seisiun show will be Wednesday nights in July and August July 25 – a stage show of Irish music, song and dance. It will feature Ceoltoiri Coleman – with Junior Davey as Fear an Tí.

On Saturday nights for July and August there is a Junior Session at 8.30 p.m. organised by Fiona Doherty well known fiddle player and all young musicians, singers and dancers – are very welcome to come along and join in in a relaxed informal setting. The Coleman Traditiona­l music festival in Gurteen will take place this year from August 22 to August 26 inclusive.

TIDY TOWNS

Gurteen is in bloom – its great to see how good the village looks with so many hanging baskets, window boxes, the large planner boxes and more – thanks to the combined efforts of home owners, businesses and members of the Tidy Towns Committee. Anyone, who would like to make a donation to the Tidy Towns effort can do so by leaving their contributi­on into the local post office and support would be greatly appreciate­d. Well done to all concerned.

CONCERN

A sincere thank you from local members of Concern in Co. Sligo for the generous donations at the church gate collection taken up recently. It will be of great benefit to the poorest of the poor in the Third World where Concern workers are assisting them on your behalf.

WALK FOR HOSPICE

Culfadda’s 25th annual Fun Walk in aid of North West Hospice takes place on Sunday, September 9. Registrati­on 12.30 p.m. in Culfadda Hall. HOSPICE SHOP VOLUNTEERS

North West Hospice is appealing for volunteers to help support their new charity shop in Sligo town centre – a variety of roles including front of house customer service – sorting of clothes – goods and labelling of items.
