THE Captain’s Prize Mr. Eamon Scanlon took place on Sunday 5th August. The Captain’s Day had begun in the early hours of the morning as Eamon put the finishing touches to the preparatio­ns, weather conditions were ideal for golf andd the golf played was of the highest order. The competitio­n played was over 18 holes and there was great scoring on the day. John O’Connor had a great round and came in with 39pts with birdies on the 4th 7th and 10th closely followed by Seamus Connolly on 39pts but not to be outdone Club Secretary Ray Doherty tore the course to shreds who came in with a brilliant score of 44pts with a magnificen­t back nine of 26pts with birdies on the 10th, 12th 14 and 18 18th to claim the Captain’s Prize for 2018.

TEA and Sandwiches were provided in the clubhouse after the golf was played AT the presentati­on of prizes Club Captain Eamon Scanlon thanked all the players for taken part and he had a special word for the course committee for having the course in brilliant condition especially John O’Connor who was out at 5.30am on Saturday Morning and also on Sunday Morning for getting everything into shape, then Eamon presented his prize to the winner Ray Doherty.

CAPTAINS Day

ON Sunday last the club saw our men’s captain Mr Paul McGonigle and our ladies captain Mrs Bridie Henry host their joint captains day. With the weather so Kind and the course in the best condition it’s been in the scores were always going to be good. After all scores were in it was Alan Taffee who had the early lead with net 70 with Benny Duignan and Kevin McCarthy a further shot back. The top 15 went out in the playoff and first out was James Fallon, Mervyn Keegan and Ciaran Cryan with Tony Wasylocha, Niall Walsh and Terry Duffy out next. After them it was Niall McLoughlin, Ray oGrady and Mark Reily with Adrian Mcgoldrick, John Hewitt and Jim McLoughlin next. Then the top three of Alan, Benny and Kevin. When all was done the spoils went to Adrian mcgoldrick who won it by half a shot from Jim McLoughlin. 3rd was Kevin McCarthy 4th was Benny Duignan

and 5th was Ray oGrady. Junior prize went to Darragh Connolly who went around in one over par. Senior prize went to Tom smith. In his speech Paul thanked the club for the opportunit­y to represent them as captain and his family for all there support through the year. After the prize giving the music started and the crowd danced away to a enjoyable night. Best of luck captain Paul on the rest of your captaincy.
