All the style from Ladies Day at Sligo Races:
ONCE again stylish ladies and men crowded Cleveragh for Ladies Day on Thursday as part of the annual bumper 2-day racing festival.
There was colour and glamour in abundance and of course plenty of fascinators to go around too.
Racing took place on Wednesday too with more entertaining action for punters in the 7-card flat fixture which was a Peaky Blinders and Farmers Day.
Moving on to The Glasshouse Hotel Ladies Day on Thursday, spectators went all out in terms of style with special guest judge Marietta Doran having a tough job at picking out the overall winner.
After much deliberation from the tv personality, she picked Carol Cassidy as the Best Dressed Lady.
The Fermanagh native said she was delighted and overwhelmed to win the brilliant prizes which were in the region of €2500.
Carol who is a teacher and lives in Irvines- town, explained that she got her dress in a sale in Strabane and made the hat herself.
Kathryn Foley, manager of Sligo Races, said it was another great two day festival.
She added that crowds were good and Ladies Day in particular was extremely well attended.
Kathryn said: “We had two great days of racing and we were very happy with the crowds.
“We don’t have the numbers just yet but it was similar to last year.
“The style on show at Ladies Day was something else.
“Carol Cassidy from Fermanagh won Best Dressed and such a brilliant prize of at least €2,500 in prizes.
“We were very delighted overall with how the festival went.
“It is really great to have a good high profile sponsor overall for Ladies Day and this will be getting bigger and bigger every year.
“We were very pleased with how it went and it seems on a par with last year.
“It was very good overall,” Kathryn said.
There are 2 more meetings to look forward to this month and at the end of September.
Kathryn said: “We have 2 more meetings, the Diageo Day on August 21st which should be another good crowd.
“It is National Hunt racing which is always popular racing.
“That day we have the Sligo ladies gaelic footballers and hopefully they will win their All-Ireland semi-final this Saturday and that they will have a real day to celebrate with us.
“We have the last meeting then which is a chase meeting on September 27th and that is also Students Day and it is also another busy meeting. We are delighted with another successful year of racing touch wood it depends on the weather a lot too.
“Our drainage works, which by far have been the biggest project in the 60 years since the racecourse came here is almost nearing completion. We have about 25% to go and that should be finished shortly. It is the biggest development here and a huge project overall,” Kathryn added.
