Fair Day reminds centenarian of days gone by

-

HE’S over 100 years old, but Michael Coyne has no intention of slowing down just yet.

Travelling to Tubbercurry last Wednesday with his nephew from Abbeytown, Boyle, Michael always tries to make it around to the nearby festivals and fair days.

“Last Sunday I was out in Salthill on a boat on the Corrib river,” he told The Sligo Champion.

Michael loves to get out and about, and he attributes his long life to ‘working hard’.

He said the Old Fair Day reminds him of days gone by.

“That’s why I come here. I like this sort of a fair day. I also like the Riverstown Vintage day.

“I was here in Tubber before for the fair day and it was a very wet day.”

He drove diggers back in the day, and he loved it. There’s nothing wrong with his memory either.

“I can think back better than I can think today about things that happened recently. I can read anything,” he added as he proceeded to read the front Page of The Sligo Champion aloud.
