Sun shines in Mullaghmore for annual Hospice Race Walk

-

JAKOB Buchreiter, a young Austrian student who is spending his summer working at Island View Horse Farm in Moneygold, led the field home in Mullaghmore on Sunday in a time of 17.39, seven seconds faster than he did in 2016 when he also won this Hospice race.

Second man to finish was North Sligo athlete Jimmy Currid who ran a fabulous 19.48. Shane Sills was third in 20.13.

First lady was the evergreen Vera Haughey, Tir Chonaill in 24.05.

Her sister Jackie Harvey, also Tir Chonaill, was 2nd in 25.10 and Yolanda Gallagher of Kinlough was 3rd in 25.14.

It was a beautiful evening in Mullaghmore. The sun shone from a cloudless sky and John Mc Hugh of the Pier Head Hotel had arranged a Musician/Singer outside the Hotel who entertained his guests, the athletes and all who waited to greet them at the finish.

Numbers were smaller this year, but a summer Sunday evening has many counter attractions. Pat McManus said: “We are grateful to all who took part and also those who contributed to this worthy cause. Thanks also to John McHugh and his staff for all their help, to the Gardai, the Sligo Champion for covering the build up to the race and to the many local people who gave their time free to get the race on the road.”
