Sailing regatta in Anthony’s memory donates to Hospice

- By EMMA GALLAGHER

FRIENDS and family gathered as they do every summer to remember Anthony Forte with a sailing regatta at Aughamore to raise money for the Northwest Hospice.

Anthony’s wife, Mary, is Events and Fundraising Co-ordinator with the Northwest Hospice and does a lot of fundraising work for the charity.

The sailing regatta is held every year with friends and family of Anthony taking part.

Next year will be its 20th year and Mary added that they will make it a big one.

Mary said they wanted to do something after Anthony died as a way to remember him.

She said: “We do it for Anthony more than anything really.

“It is a fundraiser for the Hospice too and this year we raised more than €1400. “It is all friends of Anthony’s that come every year and it is more a bit of craic than anything really.

“We had 19 boats sailing on the lake and we had 3 races as not everyone sails the same boat there can be a lot of different boats.

“We have been doing this for years but since Anthony died 10 years ago we do it in his memory and as a way to raise some money for Hospice. “Next year is our 20th so we will make it a big one.

“We raised €1442.05 this year which was great and a big thank you to everyone who came along and supported.

“The regatta is about friends and family having a day out and remembering Anthony but also helping the Hospice too for all the wonderful care and support Anthony our children and myself received while under their care,” Mary added.
