Hawk’s Well offers broad range of courses for autumn

THE Hawk’s Well Theatre’s autumn schedule offers a broad and varied programme of courses and workshops for both children and adults.

The introducti­on of some exciting new events along with the return of many popular courses and workshops for young and old at the Sligo town venue - from half-day workshops to ten-week courses – ensures that there is something for everyone.

New items on the programme include a dance workshop for parents and children, Mini Moves Family Dance-Along, beginning on Monday, September 10 th for six weeks. Led by Ingrid Mc Loughlin, little ones will learn to dance and develop their motor and listening skills in a fun and creative environmen­t.

Another new six-week workshop begins on September 12 th - Sing Your Heart

Out – with sing- er songwriter Michele Feeney and features ses- sions for both children and adults.

These intense vocal coach- ing sessions will un- lock participan­ts full vocal poten- tial, travelling through all aspects of the voice so that they are singing to their best ability.

A brand new six week Sean Nos Dance workshop led by Ka- ren Tansey begins on Tuesday the 18th of September. This is an opportunit­y for children and adults to learn the popular loose style of dancing from Ballymote dancer, Karen Tansey who has been dancing for nine years under the guidance of Edwina Guckian.

A new four-hour theatre workshop with actor, writer and director, Donal O’Kelly - Sailing Solo: Creating Your Own Show – is scheduled for Saturday, October 20 th.

Examining ways of honing text to suit performanc­e, this workshop will focus on ways of using performanc­e techniques to enhance and charge your text.

There will also be the return of some regular contributo­rs to the theatre’s education programme including Brian Leyden who will begin a six week course on writing from Tuesday the 18th of September.

This novelist, short story writer, memoirist, screenwrit­er and editor is much in demand for his workshops, and participan­ts will enjoy his enlightene­d and encouragin­g style.

Another regular and popular visitor to the theatre, Carlo Gébler returns to run a day-long writing workshop for writers of prose, long and short, fiction and non-fiction on Sunday, November 9 th. Suitable for those who are looking to start, advance or complete a piece of written work, this will be a great opportunit­y for writers to explore their skills further with the talented teacher and writer.

John Joe Kelly’s popular bodhrán workshops for children and adults begin again on Monday, September 10 th.

Renowned for his energetic teaching methods, this is a fantastic opportunit­y for children and adults to enjoy a five week course with the bodhrán master.

A new six-week season of the popular Acting for Adults evening class begins on September 17 th, led by actor and founding member of Shared Light Theatre Company, Isabel Claffey.

Providing adults of all ages with a chance to explore and develop their acting skills, this class is suitable for people with little or no acting experience.

For children, many of the theatre’s popular courses and workshops also return this Autumn; Toddler Drama for toddlers and their parents begins its new six-week season on Saturday the 15 th of September; the theatre’s Drama at the Well drama course for young drama kings and queens and led by experience­d tutor Deirdre Gaule kicks off from Saturday, September 15 th; Sligo’s music session for babies from 4mths-3yrs - SingSkool’s Beat Buddy Babies - Music & Coffee Mornings gets going again from Wednesday the 19 th of September for six weeks and Singskool’s Mini programme for little ones featuring Mini Melodies (for ages 3-4yrs), Treble Makers for ages 5-6yrs and Beat Buddy Babies - Music & Coffee Mornings, (for ages 4 months - 3yrs) gets underway from September 19 th.

In addition to the above, there is also the return of the popular Hawk’s Well Community Choir from Tuesday, October 2nd and the exciting new Sligo Community Adult Orchestra programme gets underway on Sunday, September 16 th.

Lots of interestin­g educationa­l and fun courses and workshops for all to look forward to as the evenings close in!
