CAO offers are in - IT Sligo are here to help

-

THE CAO offers are in and for many students it’s a daunting time full of difficult decision making and financial concerns. For others, choices will be limited but there are many avenues students can take to progress to third level education. Leaving Cert to Honours Degree can be achieved in stages by stepping up the third level ladder gradually. You can start on that journey now, even if you haven’t applied for CAO before!

Gerry Hegarty, Student Affairs Manager at the Institute of Technology Sligo, explained that there are many options for students who didn’t get the marks they expected; “Some students don’t realise they can apply to the CAO now for courses starting in September. There are still available places on many programmes that lead to careers in the modern workplace and I would urge anyone who has not done so, to apply right now.”

Anyone interested in taking up a third level course can apply through the CAO for admission to Available/Vacant places, regardless of whether they previously applied through the CAO or not. IT Sligo have vacant places this year across 18 different courses at Degree and Higher Certificate levels in a range of subjects including Engineering, Science, Business and Arts.

The main aim of Institute’s of Technology nationally is to provide courses where there is demand for particular skills and knowledge in a range of industries. Graduates from IT Sligo continue to be in high demand especially within the science and IT industries. President of IT Sligo, Dr Brendan McCormack believes students should give serious consideration to studying in the Science, Engineering and IT disciplines as graduates are in high demand:

“Science, Technology and Engineering are key industries in Ireland and students who gain qualifications in these subjects are in high demand especially in the west and northwest. Through Vacant Places on our website you can apply for many level 6 and 7 courses across a range of subjects from business to computing and fine art.”

For those who have decided to come to IT Sligo their next task will be finding a place to stay. Thankfully Sligo offers an abundance of accommodation close to the institute at very affordable rates. The average monthly rate for accommodation in Sligo is €320, a hundred euro less than Galway and over €250 less a month compared to Dublin.
