Win for Enniscrone

-

ENNISCRONE /KIL ST PATRICK’S 2-12 0-13

TWO goals from full-forward John Paul Carden helped Enniscrone/Kilglass secure top spot in Group 3 of the Intermediate Championship with a win over St Patrick’s at Castleconnor.

Pierce Kearins and Conal Kearins were among the Skreen outfit’s early scorers, and St Patrick’s dominated the early exchanges. Enniscrone/Kilglass were slow to get going but began to come into the tie after 15 minutes with scores from Shane Hargadon and Ciaran O’Dowd.

John Paul Carden’s first goal after 23 minutes put Enniscrone/ Kilglass into the lead for the first time, after the full forward finished beyond Jamie Lacken, and the winners finished the half well to lead 1-6 to 0-5. Patrick’s hit the opening point of the second half, but the winners turned the screw soon after with Carden netting his second goal off the underside of the crossbar after 40 minutes. In worsening weather conditions, St Patrick’s finished the game strongly and a succession of points helped them draw the gap back to the five points on a couple of occasions. But they never found a goal which would have breathed life into the tie one again.
