- BY PADRAIC DUFFY

EASKEY EASTERN HARPS 3-20 0-3

THIS encounter, played in poor conditions in Cloonacool on Saturday evening proved a major mismatch as Easkey strode to victory over a weak Eastern Harps team.

Easkey were always in control and could afford the luxury of resting former Sligo Nestor Cup captain,Noel McGuire for the final quarter.

The Sea Blues began in determined fashion and had 1-4 on the scoreboard after 12 minutes with points from Rory Mc Hugh,- Joe Mc Hugh,Hayden Gilroy and Jonathon Conway.Ace marksman Ryan Mc Kenna followed with their opening goal. Michael Lennon then got Harps off the mark with a pointed 20 metre free.

It was all one way traffic for Easkey from there to the interval. A string of points followed from Ryan Mc Kenna ,Emmet Healy,Ryan Mc Hugh, and James Lindsay. The impressive Emmet Healy closed the Easkey tally with a point and a goal to leave his side 2-9 to 0-1 ahead at the interval.

Easkey’s dominance continued in the second half. Points from Ryan Mc Kenna, Kevin Duffy ,Jonathon Conway and Ryan Mc Kenna again were followed by a third Easkey goal from Kevin Duffy. Harps’ only token response were second half points from Michael Lennon and Niall Henry.

Easkey extended their lead through points from Ryan Mc Kenna (3),Jonathon Conway ,John Queenan and Emmet Healy as the game concluded in heavy rain and fading light.

The winners, who lined out without county player, Mikie Gordon will have learned little from this miss-match. They qualify for the semi-finals without another game following the surprise withdrawal from the competition group of St.Mary’s. Harps, who were without a few regulars will need to show a marked improvement to progress in the quarter finals.
