Byrne, Hogge and Gilvarry part of U18s
THREE local rugby players have been named for the Connacht U18s squad which begun their Inter-Pro Series campaign at the weekend at the University of Limerick.
Donnacha Byrne (Summerhill College), Luke Hogge (Colaiste Muire) and Hubert Gilvarry (Sligo Grammar School) are named on the squad. All three play with Sligo RFC and the club congratulated them on their selection.
The Connacht U18s management team announced their 26man squad on Thursday and the three Sligo players were included in Head Coach Colm Tucker’s side.
In a first for the U18 Inter-Provincial Series, the tournament will take place in its entirety across 8 days at the University of Limerick.
Connacht began their series opener against Leinster on Saturday.
Next up is a meeting with Munster on Wednesday (3pm) with the concluding game against Ulster U18s on Sunday (1pm).
Head Coach Colm Tucker said: “We are looking forward to the challenge of the Inter-Pro Series in UL. It will be the first time this format has been employed with 3 games over 8 days and it presents a very exciting and tough challenge with all teams boarding and training in UL for the duration.
“The squad have worked hard this summer and have prepared well.
“We are looking forward to getting to Limerick and getting the games underway.
“We would hope to see as many Connacht supporters there as possible to support the team,” he added.
