Minister opens new care centre
OFFICIAL OPENING IN BALLYMOTE
THE new Primary and Mental Health Care Centre in Ballymote was officially opened by Minister for Health Simon Harris on Monday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Harris told the gathered audience that he was “very glad to be in Sligo today to officially open Ballymote Primary and Mental Health Care Centre.
“Government is committed to improving and expanding capacity in the primary care sector so that we can provide services locally and allow people to be cared for in their own homes and communities as often as possible.
“A key part of delivering on this commitment is the provision of well equipped modern primary care centres, which allows our primary care teams, GPs, and in the case of Ballymote the mental health teams to be located together. This means the delivery of a wider a range of services, close to home, for our communities,” he said.
The building started in May 2016 and the Centre first opened to the public on 18th January this year.
The Centre will serve a population of 11,500 from Ballymote, Gurteen, Riverstown, Geevagh and adjoining townlands.
Services provided at the centre include: Dr. Billy Roe GP, Public Health Nurses, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Dental, Social Work, occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Psychology, and Dietetics. There are addiction and Substance Misuse Counselling, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Family Therapy, an Eating Disorders Specialist as well as Community Mental Health Nursing Service. The Centre was built by JJ Rhatigan.
