The Sligo Champion

Group stage performances will galvanise Calry

Hopefully the three hard fought group games will stand to us in the next game against Carly/St. Joseph’s.

Having come through a tough Belfry Senior Championship Group 3, Keith Farragher and Dermot Horan say they are confident of pulling off a result against Coolaney/Mullinabrennan in the quarter-final.

Calry were unable to tame Tourlestrane on the opening weekend but managed to pip St John’s to second spot with a win on their second day out.

Both Farragher and Horan feel the lessons learned on the opening day against the title favourites will stand to them come the Coolaney game.

“We’re happy to be in a quarter final”, Keith says. “We were happy with the performance and result against St John’s.

“That set us up nicely in the group with one game remaining .

“Unfortunately we fell short against Tourlestrane but it was a good game against a top team and I thought we put in a decent performance in stages of that game.”

Dermot says spirits in the Calry camp are high as the blue and gold look to progress to a first county final since their inception in 1972.

“We are looking forward to the next challenge against Coolaney”, Dermot notes.

“They’re a decent side but we are confident in our ability to survive the first hurdle in the knock out stages.”
