Group Three winners Kilglass/Enniscrone looking forward to a competitive quarter-final against Ballymote
TWO wins from two in Group three of this year’s Kennedy’s Intermediate Football Championship offered clear and safe passage through to the quarter final of this year’s series for Enniscrone/Kilglass.
The men from west Sligo began life in this year’s competition with a slender win over near rivals Castleconnor on the opening day.
While this great start was followed up with a 2-12 to 0-13 win over St Patrick’s to guarantee Con O’Meara’s side progression to the last eight.
Next up is an encounter with south Sligo and Paul O’Grady’s Ballymote.
Looking ahead to that outing, O’Meara sticks by his belief that nothing is certain in championsip football.
“The Intermediate Championship is superbly competitive”, he says.
“This makes room for the ‘it’s all on the day’ clichéd caveat in previewing any of the matches.”
Like many, Con sees Shamrock Gaels and Curry as favourites to decide the destination of this year’s intermediate championship.
“The draw between the two senior league teams, Shamrock Gaels and Curry, did little to dispel the view that they remain championship favourites”. he notes.
He also had encouraging words for near rivals Ca tleconnor who face Bunninadden in one of the other three quarter finals.
“(Castleconnor’s) performance in winning the Division Two League final over senior championship quarter-finalists Calry, is a warning that they can sup tea with anyone”, Con said.
“But, as results in the league and championship have shown, in football..it is all on the day.”
Enniscrone/Kilglass take on Ballymote on Saturday week, September 15th at Cloonacool Community Park.
Throw in is at 5.30pm.
