SCHOOLS RE-OPENED

All the schools in the parish have re-opened after the summer break and the pupils and teachers are wished all the best for the coming year.

DANCING RESUMES

The Fahy School of dancing, registered under the rules of an Chomdháil, will resume dancing in the Coleman Centre, Gurteen on Saturday, September 8, from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30.New beginners are welcome and pre-school children are also catered for. Beginners welcome at any time during these hours. for more enquiries contact 087 3205484.

GAMES COMPANY

Gurteen Games Company members are distributi­ng appeal letters and donation envelopes house to house during August for the upkeep of the playground – the insurance and lighting of walkways. Further work to be done around the playground.

WALK FOR HOSPICE

Culfadda’s 25th annual Fun Walk in aid of North West Hospice takes place on next Sunday, September 9. Registrati­on 12.30 p.m. in Culfadda Hall. Walk commences at 1 p.m.

COLEMAN CENTRE

On Saturday night, September 15, Stephen Doherty and the Men of the West will perform in concert – and a great night of the best of traditiona­l music is assured.

Then on the following Saturday night top class Celtic Tenor Paul Byrom will be in concert. On Saturday night, September 29, Seán Keane will be back and a night for the diary should be October 9 with the 2018 Comhaltas tour of Ireland show.

GURTEEN PO

The fight to keep Gurteen Post Offiice continues – people who use and need the office to remain have been signing petitions and writing and sending letters to the independen­t reviewer. Meetings are ongoing and all are very optimistic that all the hard work will hopefully be successful.
