Theatre delights at the Hawk’s Well this autumn

THERE is a broad array of theatrical events coming up this Autumn at the Hawk’s Well Theatre.

The new season gets off to a fun start with Tommy Marren and Crokey Hill Players’ brand new production, 3 Hail Marys running from the 13-15 th of September – a must-see for all fans of Tommy, who has previously penned the hit comedies, It’s the Real McCoy’ and ‘Nobody’s Talking to Me’. As part of Culture Night Sligo on Friday, September 21st, No Smoke Without Fire comes to the theatre. Starring acclaimed actress, Mary Murray (of Love/Hate), this comic drama by Paddy Murray is full of sharp Dublin wit.

Seamus O’Rourke’s new play, And thank you.., comes to the theatre on September 28th; play ‘about an ordinary man living in rural Ireland’, Seamus’ followers will be delighted with his latest offering.

Beezneez present the much-requested revival of what many consider to be John Mc Dwyer’s finest play, Callaghan’s Place on November 21st and Everyman Production­s return with The Night of January 16 th, a courtroom murder trial drama set in New York which runs at the theatre from Thursday the 29 Nov – Saturday, December 1st.

On Sunday the 14 th of October, the theatre oversees an off-site theatre performanc­e that will take place at Ballast Quay in Sligo’s dockland. A rehearsed reading of The Deepwater Rambler, a new piece of writing by Bob Kelly, celebrates the rich heritage of Sligo’s docklands.

On Wednesday the 17 th of October, Tea Dance by Little John Nee & The Tea Dance Triode comes to town and this brand new show featuring the unique style of musical storytelli­ng from the Galway-based writer and performer is sure to be a weird and wonderful night of fun and frolics. Written and performed by Donal O’Kelly, Bat The Father Rabbit The Son comes to town on Wednesday, October 24 th. This play has toured to New York, Chicago, London, Edinburgh, Australia and New Zealand and now returns to Sligo. Described as “a prose poem of magical beauties and plunging vulgaritie­s’ by the New York Post, this is a theatrical highlight not to miss.

The hugely talented Pat Kinevane returns to the theatre on November 15 th with his new play, Before. Set in Clery’s of Dublin on the very day the iconic department store shuts for good, this production by Olivier Award-winning acclaimed Irish theatre company, Fishamble will be a treat for all fans of Pat’s work.

On Thursday, December 6 th, a work-inprogress reading from one of the theatre’s 2018 Time at the Well artists, will take place. Roots by Miriam Needham traces a character’s journey to Santiago, as she plays psychologi­cal games on herself to get herself through the next five kilometres...

Other theatre events include a new season of the popular Acting for Adults classes, starting on Monday the 17 th of September. Giving adults of all ages a chance to explore and develop their acting skills, this season of classes will be led by actor and founding member of Shared Light Theatre Company, Isabel Claffey. On Saturday, October 20 th, there will be a five-hour workshop with actor, writer and director, Donal O’Kelly; Sailing Solo: Creating Your Own Show will examine ways of honing text to suit performanc­e, and using performanc­e techniques to enhance and charge up text.
