Man (75) on sex assault charge of woman in hotel

A 75 year old man has been charged with the sexual assault of a woman at a county Sligo hotel.

The accused is alleged to have committed the offence on September 4 th 2016.

Defending solicitor, Mr Tom MacSharry told the court that the instructions from the DPP were that the case could be heard in the District Court if there was a guilty plea.

He applied for certification of a junior counsel in the case and this was granted by Judge Kevin Kilrane. The case was put back to October 25 th for mention. The court ordered nothing could be published which might lead to the identification of the alleged victim.
