Positive parenting tips on raising kids

-

THE HSE is running a free event to the public on how to deal with the challenges of raising children.

The Triple P parenting programme is a FREE evidence based positive parenting programme which gives parents practical tips and strategies to cope positively with the challenges of raising children and managing misbehaviour making family life more enjoyable.

The programme was chosen for delivery in Sligo/Leitrim by a partnership of the HSE and community and voluntary organisations under the Sligo Leitrim Children and Young People’s Service’s Committee (CYPSC). Triple P was selected because it has been shown to have positive outcomes for parents and children in the Irish setting.

The HSE and its partners want to support parents by increasing the number of parents who can access local quality and evidence-based parenting training and ultimately to enhance the health and wellbeing of children and young people in Sligo/Leitrim.

Triple P is a flexible, practical way to develop and enhance skills, strategies and confidence to handle parenting situations.

Triple P is backed by decades of research and it has helped over 4 million children and their families all over the world.

In Ireland, Triple P has already been delivered to 25,000 parents in the Midlands Area over the past eight years.

The evaluation showed the following positive outcomes: significantly fewer children showing signs of hyperactivity, anxiety and emotional or conduct problems; significantly fewer children prone to troublesome disobedience and parents reporting being less worried and relationship problems eased.

Fifteen practitioners from HSE and Sligo Leitrim Community groups were recently trained to deliver Triple P. Initial delivery will be to parents of children age 2-10 years.

The Sligo seminar on Triple P takes place at The Sligo Park Hotel on Thursday, September 20 th from 7-9pm.
