No Cardio Cath Lab in sight for Sligo Hospital

-

PLEAS by Sligo County Council to Health Minister Simon Harris to provide a Cardio Catheterisation Laboratory have come to nought.

Minister Harris told Sligo County Council in a letter this summer, that the national adult cardiac service is currently being reviewed.

There are currently two cath labs based in Galway which treat patients from Sligo and the Northwest.

Minister Harris said any decision on whether to provide a cardio cath lab in Sligo will be based on this review, which will not be finished until June 2019.

Minister Harris was replying to Fine Gael County Councillor and General Election candidate Sinead Maguire who appealed to all councillors in July to use their influence to lobby for the lab for Sligo.

“We need to make greater noise about it. There’s evidence it helps people recovering,” she said.

Mayor of Sligo Municipal District Fianna Fáil Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady said the cath lab for Sligo would be one of the issues she would tackle during her Mayoralty.
