Hands off! New marker machine to foil thieves

-

THE Council is buying a special property marking machine to deter would-be thieves.

Ind. Cllr Marie Casserly and FG Cllr Dara Mulvey had asked for an update on the Telesis Security Marking System.

It works by engraving the Eircode of the property owner on to an item which will allow it to be traced back to its owners if it’s stolen and recovered.

One such machine is already in operation in Monaghan.

It has been agreed that the Council will buy the machine and in conjunction with the Gardaí, will make it available to community groups interested in organising a property marking event.

An order has been placed and delivery is awaited.

Cllr Casserly said Gardaí were finding it “very useful now”.

“Monaghan County Council loans it to Sports groups and Community Alert Groups,” she said.

“We know the Gardaí will be very happy the Council is buying this machine,” she said.

Cllr Mulvey said it would benefit a lot of communities while Cllr Gino O’Boyle said four engines were stolen at Hazelwood recently.
