After nine hugely successful weeks of fun and football at the Showgrounds in July and August, the camps proved to be one of the most popular kids camps in the region yet again with over nine hundred children taking part over the nine weeks.

The children travelled from near and far to participate, with countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic all represented on the camp throughout the summer.

This year also saw each participant on the camp receiving an official Sligo Rovers training top along with a free ticket to a Sligo Rovers home game, a participation certificate and also a picture with members of the Sligo Rovers first team.

Camp co-ordinator, Shane Crossan said he was delighted with how successful the camps proved to be.

“On behalf of everyone associated with Sligo Rovers, I would like to thank everyone who participated in the 2018 summer camps this year”, he said.

We enjoyed an unbelievable nine weeks with the best of children who just love to play football.

The success of the camps could not have happened without the commitment and hard work from all of our coaches over the last two months, and it is very important that their work is recognised.

A special mention to Shannon Dykes, who was head coach for the Summer.

Her work and organisation of all the activities proved invaluable.”

Rovers first team boss Gerard Lyttle also spoke of the success of the camps.

“To come in every morning and witness such volume of kids having fun and enjoying themselves at the Showgrounds is fantastic to see.

“I know Shane and everyone behind the scenes put in a lot of hard work and I’m delighted to say it most definitely paid off ”.

Martin Heraghty, chairperson of the Bit O’Red added: “To see the Showgrounds becoming such a hive of activity week in, week out is fantastic too see and I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s camps.
