Mountain bike centre works get underway
WORK will begin on the National Mountain Bike Centre in Coolaney at the end of September.
The project will be worth €3.8 million for the local economy and has the potential to create 170 indirect jobs.
Identified by Coillte as a National Centre, and by Fáilte Ireland as a designated Adventure Hub, the site located outside Coolaney is in an area of stunning natural beauty stretching from the Wild Atlantic Way to the Sligo Way.
“This venture can significantly enhance the reputation of the Northwest, and Ireland as a whole, as a leading European destination for mountain biking activity to attract major national and international biking events to Ireland and the region,” said Councillor Dara Mulvey.
“This new facility has good job prospects at the centre for both full-time, part time and seasonal jobs ideal for students. A tourist project of this stature will have a very positive impact on existing SMEs and create an opportunity for a more diverse business environment,” he added.
