Feeney rescues victory for Carbury

-

DEFENDING champions Carbury continued their perfect start to the season, seeing off the plucky MCR with a 2-1 win at Sean Pallon Park on Sunday morning.

In a hotly contested game between two of the league’s strongest sides, Carbury took the lead after 20 minutes through Ibrahim Savage.

MCR were refusing to quit, though, and found themselves level mere minutes later when Wayne Conway just tucked the ball past Mark Rooney for 1-1.

Carbury were looking the most likely to win it as the game entered the dying minutes, and substitute Steve Feeney did the job as he hammered home from 12 yards for an important victory for the men in black.

MCR’s Paul Lynch was dismissed near the end by referee Paul Kilcoyne but that aside this game had it all and MCR would not have been flattered had they taken a point but Carbury have the wow factor this season and providing they maintain it they can have another amazing season but MCR on this display will not be far away.

Manorhamilton Rangers were at home in the Bee Park to newly promoted Merville United. Manor were two goals up at the break courtesy of a Shane Walsh strike on 25 minutes and a penalty from Aaron Hickey five minutes from the break. Merville upped the tempo in the second half and were rewarded 14 minutes from time when Malachy Spratt hammered home a fine goal, before adding another to his tally to give Merville United a share of the spoils in a game they could in fact have won.

Glenview Stars were at home on Forthill to the seasiders Strand Celtic. Stars took the lead on twenty-five minutes when Anthony Johnston struck from the penalty spot. Five minutes into the second half and it was 2-0 when Ronan O’Grady was on target for the home side. Strand continued their quest for a goal and were rewarded when Kaillum Burns fired home to give them a lifeline. However deep into extra time an unfortunate own goal from Seamie O’Boyle turned the game on its head and the seasiders took a point from a game that seemed done and dusted.

Aughanagh Celtic bounced back from recent results with a blistering display of firepower away to Ballymote Celtic at Brother Walfrid Park. Heroes of the day for Aughanagh Celtic were Stephen Craig and Marcus Guckian, both scored two goals each to capture all three points for a jubilant Aughanagh Celtic.

The leader board in the Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier league looks quite congested with only goal difference separating the top six clubs. Cartron United lead the pack after a clinical win against Benbulben FC. Dylan Monaghan opened the account for Carton on twenty minutes and ten minutes into the second half Ryan Lynch sealed the points for Cartron with a fine goal. This was a superb display by Cartron with their experience a telling factor but Benbulben are a young side and on this display will be a major force in the not too distant future.

Coolaney United continued their winning ways they were at home Gurteen Celtic and hit them for four without reply Sean Walsh, Cathal Davey, Michael Mulvey and Ciaran Mc Murray the hitmen for a

rampant Coolaney United.

Cliffoney Celtic bounced back in style from last weeks defeat when they hit St John’s for three without reply. Alan Harrison opened their account with a low pile driver from 16 yards on the half hour. Ten minutes into the second half and Harrison added his second with a close-range header. Cliffoney Celtic were now the dominant force and St Johns, despite home advantage, could find no way through the Cliffoney rear guard. Fourteen minutes from time Alan Gregg put the icing on the cake breaking from midfield he went by several players before hitting a glorious effort into the back of the St Johns net.

Real Tubber inflicted the first defeat of the season on high flying Arrow Harps with the only goal of the game from Jack Walsh on 25 minutes and what a relief that goal was as Jack had missed a penalty ten minutes earlier. But Real Tubber, last season’s beaten semi-finalists in the Connacht Shield, are silverware contenders.

Rivertown Masters made their home debut welcoming Chaffpool United to Riverstown. The masters suffered a heavy defeat last weekend and were still finding their feet and how close they came losing by the odd goal in five. The big difference here was the Pool goal machine Hughie Marren who hit a hat trick bringing his tally to eight goals already.

The masters scored twice courtesy of Darren Melly and Niall Mc Dermott and on this form they will cause a few shocks.
