BRIGHT MINDS
The Avalon Centre now operates a Preschool and Afterschool Service called Bright Minds. The Preschool operates from 9.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. and the Afterschool from 1.30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, September-June. Bright Minds are providers of the ECCE and Community Childcare Subvention Schemes, offering free Preschool spaces and subsidised Afterschool spaces for eligible families. PARENT/TODDLER GROUP
Little Buddies, Our parent and toddler group will resume on Monday, September 17, with a change of days, it will now run on Monday and Friday mornings from 10.30 a.m. to midday. Parents, grandparents and carers are all welcome. There is always a warm welcome with tea, coffee and refreshments provided. €3 per family.
SOCIAL DAY CENTRE
Our social day centre provides older adults with improved quality of life through opportunities for socialising and lifelong learning. It also provides them with a place to engage with their peers and promotes inclusion and integration of older people in the life of the community. The centre also aims to improve the mental health and well-being of older adults and to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation. The social day centre runs four days per week, Tuesday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact the centre for further details. The programme is funded by the HSE and by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection.
SENIORS ALERT SCHEME
The Avalon Centre are providers of the Seniors Alert Scheme. The Seniors Alert Scheme provides grant support for the supply of monitored personal alarms in the form of pendants or wrist watches that enable older people to continue to live securely in their homes. The grant covers the cost of the equipment and its installation. The first year of monitoring is free and will be €60 per year thereafter. Anyone, who is over the age of 65 and wishes to get a personal alarm or anyone seeking more information on the scheme can contact Donna at 071 9161836 or email donnaharte@theavaloncentre.ie.
BINGO
Bingo continues every Friday night from 9p.m. to 11p.m. Double books cost €15, single books €10, half books €5 and single sheets €1. There is also a raffle on the night.
BOWLING
The Avalon Centre Bowling Club meets every Wednesday from 11a.m. to 1p.m. at the centre. Just call in on the day.
DANCE CLASSES
Our Hip Hop dance classes returned on Monday, September 10, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for seven- to 10-year-olds and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for 10- to 13-yearolds. Still spaces left; please call in to the centre to fill out an application form to secure your child’s space. The cost is €50 for 10 weeks.
HALLOWEEN CAMPS
The Avalon Centre will be running a four-day Halloween Camp from Tuesday, October 30-Friday, November 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The cost is €70 per child. Pre-booking is essential, book early as places are limited. To book your child’s space please call in to the centre to fill out an application form.
YOUTH CLUBS
Our Youth Clubs resumed this week. Our Junior Youth Club meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Senior Youth Club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
