Remanded on assault charge

A 51 year old man charged with falsely imprisoning and assaulting another man has been further remanded in custody.

Stefan Schaufler of 199 River Road, Carton Point is charged with assaulting causing harm and falsely imprisoning Michael Lally on June 20 th and with taking his car and robbing him of €200 in cash along with his bank card, Iphone and keys to a house and car.

Schaufler is further charged with stealing €200 in cash from Mr Lally at Bank of Ireland, Stephen Street, Sligo on June 20 th and also on 21st.

Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor (defending) said there was no application for bail but that the defendant had been in custody awaiting a book of evidence since July 5 th and he was anxious for the matter to be moved on.

The defendant was further remanded in custody to a sitting of Harristown Court the next day for further remand.
