-

A driver with a previous drink driving conviction was fined €300 and banned for three years at Sligo District Court.

The fine and ban was imposed on Declan Lavin of 17 Brookgrove, Farmhill, Strandhill Road for drunk driving at Jinks Avenue on April 16 th 2017. A sample from the defendant showed a reading of 47 mgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath.

The court heard that on May 23rd 2014, he was fined €700 and banned from driving for three years at Galway Circuit Court. Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor (defending) pleaded that Lavin co-operated fully and was a decent, quiet, hardworking man.

Judge Kevin Kilrane said this second conviction could have attracted a four year ban but he was imposing three and would consider an application to restore his licence after two years.
