MAD RAVENS RETURN TO THE STAGE WITH ‘THE APPRENTICE’

SHOW TAKES PLACE ON OCTOBER 2 & 3, WITH FUNDS GOING TO CHARITY

THE Mad Ravens are back in action, and they being ‘ The Apprentice’ to the Hawk’s Well Theatre on Tuesday October 2nd and Wednesday October 3rd.

Written by Shaun Purcell and directed by Micki Murray, the show is a light-hearted comedy and is somewhat different to the type of show The Mad Ravens have previously run here in Sligo.

“Shaun’s been living in Sligo a long time. It’s an original. This is the fourth production that we have done with The Mad Ravens,” Micki Murray, Director of the show told The Sligo Champion.

He added: “We put on a show every year, and any money raised goes to charity.”

The show promises to be fun and filled with laughter.

“The other shows we’ve done have been much more sombre and sort of dark plays.

“The Apprentice is a comedy and it’s a musical so it’s all light-hearted and great fun.”

Some characters on stage in the show will be familiar to a Sligo audience, with the script adapted to fit The Hawk’s Well audience.

“It was written in the 1970s and it’s been adapted for Sligo. It introduces a lot of caricatures and Sligo characters,” Micki said.

“It’s set around a garage owned by Mr. G who is dubious and shady. And his moll and henchman. There’s a good for nothing duo as well called Knuckles and Billy.

“There’s a nice love story between Rick and Jenny.”

Micki is Director of the show along with acting on stage himself.

“I’m directing it so I’m double-jobbing as well. It’s great fun. We’ve had a lot of craic in rehearsals.

“We have a great troupe of actors. There’s only about 16 in the cast so it’s small enough.”

Money raised at each show over the years has gone to a charitable cause.

The proceeds of the show will go towards the Cancer Support Centre.

“That’s the idea of the show really to raise a bit of money for charity,” Micki added.

“We only put on a show once a year. There will be loads of fairly well known Sligo people on stage like Vanessa Byrne, Luke Devaney, Elaine O’Gorman, Brendan Tierney, newcomer Declan Walsh and more.”

This show is suitable for all ages. Tickets are €15 and are available from the Hawk’s Well Theatre box office on hawkswell, com or 071 9161518.
