Sligo based play hitting the right notes in Los Angeles

-

A play about a lost Sligo soul is receiving rave reviews in the United States.

Written by Sligo man Conor McDermottroe, ‘Swansong’ is currently on stage in LA, before it moves on to New York, where it opens on November 6 th.

Next year, the show goes on an Australian tour and is on the drama syllabus in Victoria, Australia.

Last Thursday night, there was more good news for McDermottroe, as ‘Swansong’ was given an ‘Ovation!’ recommendation which is a nod from the L.A Stage Alliance.

There are six shows in the whole of California that are Ovation recommended right now.

‘Swansong’ tells the story of an illegitimate child of a single mother, growing up on the streets of Sligo in the 1960s, sitting on the banks of the Garavogue river chatting to swans.

Occi, as he is called, is a gentle-hearted soul, but the abuse that he is subjected to as he is growing up sees him turn to violence as he searches for redemption in one form or another.

Tormented throughout his life for being born to a single mother, this is the story of Occi’s struggle through life.
