Local women compete in Miss Bikini contest
Two Sligo women are among dozens who will be competing on October 14 for the right to represent Ireland in Swimsuit USA International, a model search competition which will be held in Mexico the following week.
Shania Murphy, from Riverstown, and Amber Lynch, from Sligo town have both been chosen among the Irish finalists, and are looking for your votes.
Shania, who is currently completing a personal trainer course, is set to begin studying BA (Hons) Criminology and Psychology course in with Arden University in October. This online course is ideal for Shania as she has over the years missed considerable school time due to illness and hospital appointments. Shania was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) as a baby and has to adhere to a strict daily medical regime to stay healthy.
While Shania enjoys going to the gym it does have a role in her health programme as, in addition to nebulisers and daily physiotherapy, exercise is extremely important for
CF sufferers.
In 2012, Shania was diagnosed with CF related diabetes which means she has to balance taking her insulin with her gym time.
In addition to gym time Shania joined Dromahair boxing club and has competed in many boxing competitions including competing in the National Stadium. Occasionally Shania is forced out of the gym due to CF related arthritis but once this painful flare up is over she is straight back to training.
She also suffers from DIOS (Distal intestinal obstruction syndrome) which has resulted in her having two abdominal operations leaving minor scars.
‘Despite being told that they were barely visible, for years I would not wear crop tops or a bikini to the beach as I was so self conscious. Being selected for Miss Bikini has given me the confidence to be proud of my body and my achievements’.

Miss Bikini Ireland is like no other model competition as it invites models with no previous experience. The girls get to attend workshops, gain experience in participating in photo shoots, brand advertising and fitness training. The judges are looking for a girl who is hard working, positive, reliable, determined and who will be the best representative as Miss Bikini Ireland.
Text votes are required as the girl with the highest text vote will automatically go through to the top five on the night of final. The other four girls will be chosen by a combination of judges’ decision and votes.
Finalists who get the most votes get straight into the top five.
Amber Lynch is also an extremely talented footballer.
Just last week, after a great season with IT Sligo, Amber was awarded with the 2017-2018 Rustlers Ireland Goal of the Season award.
She also won player of the tournament during the inter-varsities.
Amber has been working extremely hard ahead of this competition, and is a regular in the gym.
