Broken nose and jaw in alleged assault
A man charged with assaulting another man in a nightclub will face trial in the Circuit Court after Judge Kevin Kilrane refused jurisdiction in the case when it was outlined to him at the District Court last Thursday.
Liam Moran (34) of 8 Oak Park, Maugheraboy is charged with assault causing harm to Derek Feely at JFK Parade on October 30 th 2017.
Outlining what allegedly took place, Mr Feely told Judge Kilrane he had been out dancing and recalled complimenting a woman on her dress.
A man, who he had never met before, came up behind him and tapped him on his shoulder.
He was then knocked to the ground by this man. Mr Feely said he was then given a full force kick to the head by this other man. He suffered a broken nose and jaw while he also had a serious head injury as result of the assault. He hasn’t worked since.
Judge Kilrane said the case was too serious for the District Court and must go to the Circuit Court. Moran, who was represented by Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor was remanded on bail to December 6 th for DPP’s directions.
