Ballintogh­er man pleads guilty to driving offences

A 27-year-old Ballintogh­er man has been remanded on continuing bail after pleading guilty to a string of road traffic offences around the county.

Michael Lawrence, with addresses at Woodfield, Ballintogh­er and Mountain View, Tubbercurr­y, appeared before Judge Kevin Kilrane to face the charges at Tubbercurr­y District Court last Wednesday 26 th September.

Lawrence pleaded guilty to driving without a driver’s licence at O’Connell Street, Sligo on 11 th April this year.

He pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and failing to produce an insurance certificat­e at Mountain View, Tubbercurr­y on 8th January 2017.

The defendant also pleaded guilty to driving without an NCT, licence or insurance at Doorly Park on 22nd November 2017. He also failed to produce the documents required such as his driver’s licence, insurance certificat­e and NCT cert to a Garda station within ten days.

Defence solicitor Ms Laura Spellman told Judge Kilrane that her client was pleading guilty to the above offences.

He is also charged in connection with a hit and run incident at Summerhill, Mountain Road, Tubbercurr­y on 1st November 2017 - it’s alleged Lawrence was the driver of a car which caused damage to a van belonging to Mr Gyorgy Szabados and failed to stay at the scene or report it to Gardaí.

He’s also charged with failing to produce a driver’s licence to Garda Trevor McNicholas within ten days of the incident.

Judge Kilrane remanded Lawrence on continuing bail to 23rd November for service of a book of evidence on the Summerhill charges.

He also ordered the preparatio­n of a Probation Report on Lawrence before sentencing on the offences he pleaded guilty to.
