ECUMENICAL MEMORIAL SERVICE

The third annual North West STOP Suicide Ecumenical Memorial Service will take place in the Glens Centre Manorhamil­ton on Monday night, October 8, commencing at 8 p.m. and concluding at 9.30 p.m.

Clergy from the main Christian denominati­ons in the North West area will attend and officiate at the Ecumenical Memorial Service during which prayers and other religious offerings will feature as part of the remembranc­e service for the victims of suicide and their families.

Meantime the organisers of Memorial Service say ‘on behalf of all the North West STOP Team, we would like to extend an invitation to one and all to join us in an evening of reflection.

‘Coinciding with World Mental Health Week, this Ecumenical Service invites and looks forward to various speakers from different organisati­ons and religions attending the service on the night and saying a few words and sharing our visions of hope for the future of Ireland’s individual and shared mental health.

‘This is an open invitation and all are welcome to attend. There will be refreshmen­ts available on the night.’.

POPULAR SERGEANT RETIRES

Ireland’s longest serving An Garda Síochána member, the highly popular Sergeant Robert Conroy of Manorhamil­ton Garda Station will retire from the force on Wednesday, October 10.

There will be a retirement function to celebrate Robert’s distinguis­hed and long career in Heraghty’s Bar Manorhamil­ton at 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, October 10. All are welcome to attend Sergeant Robert’s retirement function.

Prior to the closure of Droma- hair Garda Station some years back, Sergeant Robert was the Dromahair Station Sergeant and indeed the last member of An Garda Síochána, to hold that post.

Following the Dromahair Garda Station’s closure Sergeant Robert was transferre­d to Manorhamil­ton where he is currently completing the final days of his An Garda Síochána service, which will end with his retirement on October 10.

HANNAH’S RUGBY SUCCESSES

Lurganboy’s Hannah Johnson was a member of the Connacht Women’s under-18 team that recently completed a three game inter provincial winning run when the Western province side defeated Leinster at the Barnhall Rugby grounds in Leixlip, Co. Kildare.

Prior to their win over Leinster, the Connacht Women’s under-18 team had scored victories over Ulster and Munster earlier this month.

VINTAGE CLUB MEETING

The next meeting of the Northwest Vintage and Heritage Club takes place in Manorhamil­ton’s Bee Park Community Centre on this Thursday night, October 4, at 9 p.m.

WILDLIFE WALK

On this Saturday morning, October 6, commencing at 11 a.m. a free for all participan­ts ‘Walk for Wildlife’ event will take place at Hazelwood Sligo.

The guest speaker at the ‘Walk for Wildlife’ event at Hazelwood will be Birdwatch Sligo’s Michael Bell. Meantime the ‘Walk for Wildlife’ event organisers say ‘everyone is welcome – there will be activities for children – come along and find out why Your Wildlife needs you.’
