GAA CLUB NEWS

IFC–TOURLESTRANE CASTLECONNOR 0-12 V CURRY 3-11: The championship dream for 2018 is over. In an enjoyable game of football where a very large crowd from the parish were there to support the lads, the extra experience and years of senior stood to Curry as they pulled away and withstood our comeback on two ocacssions.

We were 1-2 to no score down after 5 minutes but we held them scoreless till the last kick of the half after we had drawn level with points from Seán Carrabine, Stevie Curley Kevin Langan and Kevin McDonnell. At this time Rory Healy and John McDonnell were moping up a lot of ball in the half back line. At the break the score was 1-3 v 0-5.

Curry got off again to a good start with a score which we equalised twice through points from Kevin Mc and Stevie. in the 45th minute Colin Gordon was beaten in a 2 on 1 after previously making a double save for Curry to push their lead out to 7 after following with quick points. We showed great spirit and fight at this stage and scored 4 points in a 5 minute spell winning 5 kickouts in a row with Eoin Kent joining Sean and Stevie on the scoring charts.

There was a long stoppage after a strong challenge saw former Sligo team mates Patrick Naughton and Sean Davey hit the deck but warriors that they are were up and able to continue. In the 9th minute of injury time, the final minute, Curry intercepted our attack and finished with a goal that did not do justice to the scoreline.

Thanks to the whole squad, management team and anyone that helped in any way throughout the year. Despite going out all can look back and have some reward with out 4th division 2 league title. The squad put in a great effort and deserve enormous praise every one of them for what they managed this year. It is only a few short months after 2 rounds of the league we were down at the bottom of the division but turned it around and won the league with 6 straight wins in a row.
