‘Neglected’ Ballymote road in a ‘dangerous’ state
A busy road in Ballymote has been described as “dangerous” and “neglected”.
Independent Councillor Margaret Gormley told the October County Council meeting that the road from the Railway Bridge past Ballymote cemetery on the R296 at Carrownanty had been neglected and called for action.
“It accommodates two housing estates, the cemetery and two factories, leading on to Bunninadden and Tubbercurry.”
“It is in a very dangerous state and poor condition. The engineer did tell me that he will carry out repairs and it’s included in a three year programme of works but because it’s such an important road I’m surprised it hasn’t been on the agenda to be carried out before now,” she told the meeting.
Also included on the roads programme for 2019 is another section of R296 from Bunninadden village by Cloonameehan Cemetery.
Cllr Gormley was supported by Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey and Fianna Fáil Councillor Keith Henry. The road is included in the 2019-2021 Road Improvement Programme.
