Two new pedestrian crossings to be built on Bundoran Road

-

TWO new pedestrian crossings are in the pipeline for the Bundoran Road in the next year.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom MacSharry had tabled a motion at the meeting calling for a controlled pedestrian crossing on the Bundoran road in the interests of Health and Safety.

He said a large number of young families with young children and elderly residents in the Beachwood Court, Churchview Crescent, Rathbraughan, Glendallen, Woodlands and Cartron estate area were “risking life and limb every day trying to cross the road to the two shops and fast-food outlet.”

“There have been fatalities in the past and a number of very near misses lately on this road,” he told the meeting.

Director of Services Tom Kilfeather told Cllr MacSharry that between now and mid to late 2019 funding will be in place to provide two new pedestrian crossings: one at the former Topaz Service Station early 2019 and a second one at the Texaco Filling Station by the end of 2019.

The news was welcomed by Cllrs MacSharry, Seamus Kilgannon, Rosaleen O’Grady and Hubert Keaney.
