Bail refused in case of attempted robbery

A 37 year old man charged with attempting to rob a bookies in Collooney has been refused bail and was remanded in custody when he appeared before Sligo District Court last Thursday.

Brian Duke (pictured) of Cois Abhainn, Collooney is charged with attempting to rob Pyramid Betting Office on September 24 th. He is further charged with assaulting Shanice Hayes causing her harm at Cois Abhainn.

On Thursday last, Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor (defending) said the defendant had hoped to €3,000 in cash to offer as bail but unfortunat­ely this wasn’t possible.

Judge Kevin Kilrane said he hadn’t fixed bail on the last court date but had adjourned the matter. He was now going to refuse bail.

Inspector Donal Sweeney said there were no directions from the DPP in the matter yet.

The case was adjourned to October 19 th to Harristown District Court and Duke was remanded in custody.
