Stole groceries from Dunnes

A man who admitted stealing groceries from Dunnes Stores was given the benefit of the Probation Act.

Eamon Lynch (57) of 102 Garavogue Villas pleaded guilty to stealing €63 worth of groceries from Dunnes Stores on September 3rd last.

Mr John Anderson, solicitor (defending) pleaded that the defendant, a widower, was on medication was in a dazed state.

Mr Anderson said that the minute the defendant was stopped in the store he offered to pay for the goods.

He had already paid for some.

Judge Kevin Kilrane said he always made a distinctio­n between gratuitiou­s stealing, a lot of which was going on at the minute, and theft in this case which was food items.
