Half of compo is paid

A man who was given a week to come up with €3,000 for a visitor to Sligo he assaulted in the street produced €1,500 last Thursday. Michael Sweeney (41) of 38 Old Bundoran Road, Sligo was before the court on foot of bench warrant after failing to appear last week when he was ordered to have €3,000 in court for his victim, Declan O’Brien whom he had assaulted in an unprovoked attack as he chat- ted to an elderly man sitting on a bench outside a bookies on September 10 th 2016.

Mr Mark Mullaney, solicitor (defending) said the reason Sweeney didn’t turn up last week was because he hadn’t the money. Judge Kilrane adjourned the matter to November 15 th for the remaining €1,500 telling the defendant he had full confidence in him gathering the sum.
