Junior final postponed as a mark of respect

THE Lola Montez Junior Football Championsh­ip final between Owenmore Gaels and Easkey which was scheduled to take place on Sunday was postponed as a mark of respect following the untimely death of Donie Murphy, father of Owenmore Gaels captain Pa Murphy. Owenmore Gaels said Donie was an avid football fan and was in Sligo recently to watch the Collooney side book their place in the final. The club said: “We are saddened to bring the news of the sudden passing of Donie Murphy of Scartaglin Co.Kerry. Donie is the father of our senior team captain Pa Murphy. An avid football man and an extremely proud dad,

“Donie was with us in Buninnadde­n a number of weeks ago to watch Pa lead us to the county final.

“Our deepest condolence­s are extended to Pa, Anne-Marie and granddaugh­ter Síofra, and to Donie’s wife Marie, son Daniel and daughter Michelle and extended family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.” Donie was laid to rest yesterday in Scartaglen Cemetery, Co Kerry.

The Junior final between Owenmore Gaels and Easkey will now take place on Saturday in Cloonacool at 5:30pm.
