McSharry in final at Youth Olympics

GRANGE’S Mona McSharry progressed to the 50m Breaststroke Final at the World Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires along with fellow Team Ireland teammate Niamh Coyne.

After two fantastic performances in the morning, which saw both girls win their heats, McSharry advanced to the semi-final second overall in 31.78 and Coyne fifth in 31.90.

Both impressed again in Sunday night’s semi-finals with Coyne touching second in her semi-final in 31.80 while McSharry was third in hers in 32.02, the duo securing places for the final in 4th and 6th respectively.

The 50m Breaststroke Final took place at 10.14pm (Monday).

Boxer Dean Clancy from Ballinode is also part of the Team Ireland group in Buenos Aires.
