The Sligo Champion

Rowing season back up and running

-

SLIGO Rowing Club’s season began earnest on the 28th of September when Glenn Patterson, Brian Colsh and their coach Tommy Colsh travelled to the National Rowing centre in Cork to compete in the season opening Regatta held on the six Lane, 2000m course on Inniscarra Lake.

This regatta also doubled as part of the national team selection process.

Patterson raced in the men’s open singles sculls category and Colsh raced in the men’s junior single scull category. Both scullers raced very well but unfortunately neither made it to their respective finals. From a field of of 59 athletes Colsh failed to make the final by less than one second and is hopeful of getting a call back for further national trials at the end of October.

Four athletes from the club travelled to Offaly on the 6th of October to compete in the annual Tullamore time trial race. Glenn Patterson again raced in the men’s open category while Brian Colsh and Killian Carty raced in the men’s junior 16 categories.

Also competing for the club in the men’s masters category was Molua Donoghue.

All scullers raced well in their respective categories with Brian Colsh finishing in second place, just 0.1 seconds behind the eventual winner, Andrew Carol from Athlone Boat Club.

The performance of the day undoubtedly went to Glenn Patterson who won the men’s open category and recorded the fastest time of the day.

This was an incredible performance by Patterson and all of the athletes competing from Sligo Rowing Club, and a great start to what hopefully will be a great season ahead.
