Foley and McLoughlin win Grange 10k
A morning of heavy rain and strong winds kept numbers very much down for the Grange 10k on Sunday. Perception and reality differed in the half hour before the race conditions improved and those who took part enjoyed the trip.
North Sligo athlete Dessie Foley was a convincing winner of the Paddy Brennan Cup in a time of 34minutes 53 seconds,he was followed by his clubmate Dublin City Marathon bound Aidan McMoreland in a time of 35minutes 44seconds,another North Sligo AC marathon bound man Donal Egan finished 3rd in 35 minutes 55 seconds. Eavan McLoughlin Sligo AC was a convincing winner of the women’s section of the race in a time of 38minutes 58 seconds,Zola Flynn from Calry AC was 2nd in 40 minutes 1 seconds and North Sligo’s Aisling Van Rensburg was 3rd in 41 minutes 28 seconds.North Sligo AC athlete Gary Gallagher won the over 40 men’s section with his two clubmates Ray Gillen and Alan Wal- lace 2nd and 3rd. Deidre Norton won the women’s over 40 section from North Sligo clubmates Karen Gillen and Marita McMorrow. Eamon Murphy ran a superb 36 minutes 36 seconds to win the over 50 section from Jimmy Currid who was 2nd in 40 minutes 43 seconds,only one second separated Cindy McCarthy and Mary Gilmartin in the women’s over 50 section with McCarthy just shading it .Joe Stagg from Corran AC won the over 60 category in 44minutes 37 seconds. Michael Kerins North Sligo AC ran a great time of 36 minutes 17 seconds to win the Junior men’s section from Matt Devlin from Corran AC 41 minutes 46 seconds. A top class display of walking was put on by Ryan Roberts from Sligo AC who finished the 10k in 58 minutes 44 seconds with his clubmates Eva Delahunt and Ruth Monaghan putting in great displays with times of 58 minutes 45 seconds and 66minutes 42 seconds respectively.
