Trainees graduate from Markievicz House work experience programme
Markievicz House was in celebration mode on Wednesday afternoon for the graduation of the trainees who work in the centre’s Countess Café.
The graduation ceremony celebrated the achievements of the men and women participating in this innovative work experience programme at the Countess Café in the heart of Markievicz House.
The initiative, which is supported by the Sligo Family Resource Centre and the HSE, provides a two year training opportunity for adults who benefit from additional supports. Participants are referred by various local agencies and day care centres.
All trainees work for a number of hours each week depending on their need and ability.
Social interaction is a key part of the work, along with spe- cific tasks designed to increase their confidence and sense of achievement.
Sligo Mayor Rosaleen O’Grady joined the celebrations, along with family members, and staff from both the Sligo Family Resource Centre and the HSE. As she presented the graduates with their certificates, the Mayor congratulated them on their ‘courage and commitment’.
The staff and trainees at the Countess Café provide an exceptional service to the staff and members of the public in a professional and welcoming manner.
Those graduating were: Martin Devaney, Patricia Curneen, Emer Cummings, Paul Durkin, Steven McGowan, Killian Power, Geraldine Travers, Ryan Doherty, Barry Leonard and Jonathan Price.
