Woman turned to drugs after death of partner
A 26-year-old woman who was before Sligo District Court on an array of charges, mostly for theft, was sentenced for four months in prison by Judge Kevin Kilrane. The defendant, Bridget Lynch, with an address at Main St, Lisnaskea, Fermanagh and other addresses in Finglas, Dundalk and Bray, was charged with numerous offences, including theft of diesel from Mullen’s Spar Bundoran Road and Cannings Service Station, Pearse Road, and also stealing Asics runners from Elvery’s Johnston Court and a top from Jack and Jones, O’Connell St. Most of the offences, which included stealing food, no insurance and also stealing number plates from cars, occurred in 2015.
Lynch, was in custody, had a number of previous convictions the last one on October 22nd last in Bray District Court for theft and criminal damage.
Ms Laura Spellman solicitor (defending) said Lynch had a very traumatic tragedy a number of years ago when family members had lost their lives in the Carrickmines fire and she also lost a baby. She said drugs and alcohol were a huge factor since she lost her partner in February and her life had unravelled after that. The judge imposed a 4 month sentence starting last Thursday and disqualified her from driving for four years.
