Woman turned to drugs af­ter death of part­ner

A 26-year-old woman who was be­fore Sligo District Court on an ar­ray of charges, mostly for theft, was sen­tenced for four months in prison by Judge Kevin Kilrane. The de­fen­dant, Brid­get Lynch, with an ad­dress at Main St, Lis­naskea, Fer­managh and other ad­dresses in Fin­glas, Dun­dalk and Bray, was charged with nu­mer­ous of­fences, in­clud­ing theft of diesel from Mullen’s Spar Bun­do­ran Road and Can­nings Ser­vice Sta­tion, Pearse Road, and also steal­ing Asics run­ners from Elvery’s John­ston Court and a top from Jack and Jones, O’Con­nell St. Most of the of­fences, which in­cluded steal­ing food, no in­sur­ance and also steal­ing num­ber plates from cars, oc­curred in 2015.

Lynch, was in cus­tody, had a num­ber of pre­vi­ous con­vic­tions the last one on Oc­to­ber 22nd last in Bray District Court for theft and crim­i­nal dam­age.

Ms Laura Spell­man so­lic­i­tor (de­fend­ing) said Lynch had a very trau­matic tragedy a num­ber of years ago when fam­ily mem­bers had lost their lives in the Car­rick­mines fire and she also lost a baby. She said drugs and al­co­hol were a huge fac­tor since she lost her part­ner in Fe­bru­ary and her life had un­rav­elled af­ter that. The judge im­posed a 4 month sen­tence start­ing last Thurs­day and dis­qual­i­fied her from driv­ing for four years.
