Eastern Harps raise €50,000 for development of ground

-

EASTERN Harps’ recent race night raised in excess of €50,000 for the club.

The race night was held last Sunday night in the Foxes Den in Keash, Co. Sligo.

The night began with the owner of the Foxes Den, Patrick Ward presenting a framed ‘Caves of Keash’ photograph to Paul Collins of Today FM who was MC for the night. Paul, who is a massive GAA supporter, hails from Tipperary then met the race night sub-committee of Brendan McHugh, Seamus Hannon, Ronan Higgins and Kevin Cryan before getting into action of presenting the eight races and announcing race sponsors for each race.

Paul’s enthusiasm and banter with the crowd led to a great night for the 250 patrons who were present.

The club used the opportunity to mark the massive work that Kieran McGill and his wife Mary do for the North West Hospice.

Twenty-five years ago Kieran organised a walk to raise funds for the Hospice.

He has kept the walk going every year since and to date Kieran has raised €316,000 for the North West Hospice.

Paul presented Kieran and Mary McGill with a lovely caricature to commemorate this huge achievement.

Midway through the night Paul Collins sat down with the former Eastern Harps player and the new Sligo senior manager Paul Taylor. Taylor’s optimism for the 2019 season was clear to be seen and he looks forward to the challenge ahead.

Chairman Padraig Henry thanked all our generous sponsors, those who bought horses, those who placed bets to raise funds for the new clubhouse and also thanked Patrick Ward from the Foxes Den for being great hosts on the night.

The final figure raised from the monster race night will be in excess of €50,000.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2019 which includes four dressing rooms, referees room, office, gym, store room, lift, meeting area and catering facilities.
